Podcasting – First Steps

This mini-series is meant to guide you in your podcasting journey. It will give you quick step by step decisions to launching your first show.

Step 1: Finding the “Why”

Podcasting can be fun and expensive. Why do you want to start one? This is a deep question and should take some thought. Podcasting can be a great creative outlet as well as a marketing tool for your business. Podcasting is NOT a get rich quick tool. In fact, I wouldn’t expect to see any income from a podcast for at least a year (if at all). You need to truly be clear on the reason you are making this podcast in the first place.

Step 2: All about the show

Ok, let’s get some logistics taken care of. Before you start to record your show, you should have a few things in order. Here is a guide to things you should come up with. When you get to the contact section, not every site is required. Think about where your audience is.

• Show Name: This is what your show will actually be called.
• Show Description: What will the show be about?
• Show Length: How long will your show be? There are no rules to this. Be mindful of your audience
• Show Format: Is this an interview show, solo to the microphone, a co-hosted show, or something else?
• Show Website: This should be the show’s URL
• Show Contact Info
  • Show Email Address: You should make an email address for the show its self. It avoids using a personal address for anything.
  • Show Facebook Page: If you think your audience will be located on any of the following, make one of these.
  • Show Facebook Group: ” “
  • Show Twitter: ” “
  • Show Instagram: ” “
  • Show SnapChat: ” “
  • Show YouTube Channel: ” “

Here is an example of The Podcasters Podcast:

• Show Name: The Podcasters Podcast
• Show Description: For podcasters, by podcasters. Here to teach you how to launch your podcast in 30 days or less!
• Show Length: How long will your show be? Up to 30min
• Show Format: Is this an interview show, solo to the microphone, a co-hosted show, or something else? A mix between a solo and interviews.
• Show Website: https://podcasterspodcast.com
• Show Contact Info
  • Show Email Address: wayne@podcasterspodcast.com
  • Show Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/podcasterspodcast/
  • Show Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/PodcastersPodcastPublicForum/
